EarthCam Captures Live Footage of 1958 TWA “Connie” Lockheed Constellation in Times Square

Construction for the new TWA Hotel at JFK Airport is nearing completion and a very unique component of the hotel made a special appearance in Times Square over the weekend. From March 23-24, the 1958 Lockheed Constellation “Connie” airplane bound to become a cocktail lounge toured through the heart of New York City and EarthCam captured footage of the special event. The vintage plane’s appearance drew a massive crowd of more than 400,000 visitors, including Mayor Bill de Blasio and Hotel Trades Council President Peter Ward.

The fuselage of the fully restored plane underwent a major makeover into a retro cocktail lounge for the new TWA Hotel. Connie traveled through Manhattan on a tour in celebration of the hotel’s imminent opening, including the pedestrian plaza in Times Square, the same spot where a billboard advertising the plane once stood in the 1950s. In addition to capturing the plane in Times Square, EarthCam is also documenting construction of the new TWA Hotel at JFK Airport with its high-quality construction camera solutions.

See TWA’s Connie as the vintage plane tours Times Square with EarthCam’s webcam footage. Stay tuned for EarthCam’s construction time-lapse movie of the new TWA Hotel at JFK Airport, opening May 15!
