The Young Professionals (YP’s) of Arizona Roofing Contractors Association were introduced to Kathy Hamel, founder of the non-profit Arizona Shih Tzu and Small Breed Rescue Inc. Their mission is rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming of Shih Tzu’s as well as small mixed and purebred dogs. The rescue also helps animals in the community whose owners cannot afford urgent vet care thus preventing economic euthanasia. The organization has been known to take in a bigger dog or two, a goat, a few cats, and kittens that strangers drop off at their doorstep with nowhere else to go.
Kathy’s roof was damaged beyond repair and, unfortunately, being a 501(c)(3) organization, funds for a roof replacement were low.
The YP’s were able and eager to help. In the beginning, Roofing Solutions & Concepts and WRECORP performed emergency temporary repairs to the low and steep slope in August of 2019 until the material list and labor details were finalized.
In early December 2019, the decayed roofs were replaced with laminate shingles on the steeper portion, and SBS Self-Adhered on the less-declining areas. With the labor provided by several valley roofing companies and materials donated by a variety of roofing manufacturers and local distributors, the YP’s were able to install a new sustainable roof system.
Without all the committed, hard work of the following companies, making the animal’s rehabilitation watertight would have not been possible:
APOC
Azul Roofing Solutions
Beacon Building Products
Elite Roofing Supply
Flynn Roofing Southwest
Gorman Roofing Services, Inc.
Polyglass
