The 4×5 Suicide Prevention Program is hosting a charity golf tournament on Thursday, April 17, to raise funds to end construction suicides in Arizona. The event will be held at McCormick Ranch Golf Club, and all proceeds will directly support the program’s efforts to train construction professionals in Mental Health First Aid (MHFA)—a technique which equips workers to engage and provide life-saving resources to their peers facing mental health challenges.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the construction industry faces one of the highest suicide rates of any profession in the United States. The 4×5 Suicide Prevention Program is addressing this on job sites across Arizona. In just one year of operation, the organization has trained over one hundred construction professionals in MHFA techniques and educated thousands more through on-site toolbox talks and coaching sessions.

“We’re bringing the community together to raise awareness and funds to combat the mental health challenges faced by trade workers,” said Sidney Hawkins, Program Director.  “This tournament is about more than golf—it’s about saving lives.”

This charity golf tournament is a chance for the community to come together to support Arizona’s tradespeople, ensuring their mental health and well-being remain a top priority.

“I’ve seen parents, siblings, and children lose their lives because no one was paying attention to the signs. This tournament will allow us to bring hope and resources to those in need. If that means saving just one person, it’s well worth it,” said Hawkins.
