Fall Protection Grating for floor access doors from The BILCO Company allows workers to safely inspect pumps and monitor underground areas.
The system is easy to install in the field on existing doors, even those that are not manufactured by BILCO. The New Haven, Conn. company is the leader in the design and manufacturing of specialty access products, and its line includes automatic smoke vents, floor access doors, roof hatches, basement doors and window wells.
Backed by a 25-year manufacturer’s warranty, the grating provides a permanent means of fall protection under access doors. It features aluminum grating with a safety-yellow powder coat finish for added durability. It includes stainless steel hardware for corrosion resistance and is equipped with a stainless steel automatic hold-open device that locks the panel in the open position. It also includes a padlock hasp for added security. The system exceeds fall protection requirements established by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
The BILCO Company’s Fall Protection Grating System is designed for quick and easy installation. Simply measure the frame opening and provide the information to BILCO, which will supply a field installation kit that includes instructions and all mounting hardware. Installation requires drilling eight holes in the frame for the hinges and the support brackets and drilling two more holes in the cover stiffener for the hold-open latch. Attaching the fall protection grating panel and the hold-open latch with stainless steel fasteners, which are provided, completes the project. The system is inexpensive and can be installed in 30 minutes.
Fall protection grating is available in all standard sizes, and can be factory-installed on BILCO Type J, JD, J-AL, J-DAL 300 PSF and H-20 reinforced floor access doors. It can also be ordered in special sizes by contacting The BILCO Company.
A unique pintle hinge design allows the fall protection grating panel to open to a full 90-degree position to maximize the area available for access.
