Phoenix-based Willmeng Construction recently gathered more than 150 of its closest clients and trade partners for a round of golf that will have a lasting impact on one Arizona nonprofit organization. Through its annual Builders Cup golf tournament, Willmeng raised funds for Treasure House, an organization founded by Kurt and Brenda Warner, that serves adults with developmental disabilities. This year’s effort to gather industry colleagues together to support a non-profit through direct, tax-deductible donations outpaced the previous year’s event, raising more than $300,000 for the local organization.

“I was just so full of joy after last year and Willmeng along with the business community totally and completely blew it out of the water again this year,” said Lauri Tanner, CEO of Treasure House. “The fact that we can be here amongst 200-300 people that may or may not know about Treasure House really helps us move the needle for awareness. And obviously the money is a great benefit to the residents and the families that we serve.”
Treasure House Phoenix provides a supportive community and personalized plans for young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities to achieve independence and purpose. They offer community-based housing and services, skill development, connections, and vocational opportunities. To maintain affordability for residents who only pay $3,800 monthly, significantly less than the actual cost, Treasure House relies heavily on fundraising efforts like the Builders Cup to cover the remaining expenses and scholarship each resident approximately $50,000 annually.
This was the second year that Willmeng has utilized the Builders Cup as a major fundraising event. Last year, Willmeng raised more than $260,000 for Treasure House and topped that this year, bringing the two-year total to more than $560,000, all of which goes directly to Treasure House. In the past, Willmeng hosted the golf tournament as a thank you to its many clients and trade partners in the market. James Murphy, CEO of Willmeng, however, has witnessed that this tremendous opportunity can positively impact the community, all while bringing Willmeng’s clients and friends together.
“This event means a lot to the Willmeng team and we couldn’t do this without all of the generous support of our trade partners and clients, they have really responded and made this a truly memorable and impactful day,” said Murphy. “Willmeng is a charitable organization. We always have been. Giving back is a big part of the fiber of our company and this affords our community the opportunity to see their direct donation make a difference.”
Major sponsors of the Builders Cup were The Structures Group, which was the title sponsor for the event for the second straight year. Commonwealth Land Title National Commercial Services was the Sapphire Sponsor; Suntec, TFC, Trademark, Riggs, S&S Paving and Pueblo were all Gold Sponsors; SubZero was the Silver Sponsor; Ronning Landscaping,Icon Electric, Copper State Pavement, Kincaid Civil, Siteworks, Whitney Baugh were Copper Sponsors, Butler Design Group was the Ruby Sponsor. Other generous sponsors included Wilson, Airpark Signs, AE Concrete, Adobe Drywall, Hawkeye Electric, Degan, Siteworks, and SDC Inc. Also, longtime Willmeng partners Tonya Lively (Commonwealth Land Title National Commercial Services) and Alex Boles (ViaWest Group) personally donated $5,000 each during the live raffle to ensure the event eclipsed the $300,000 mark.
“The Builder's Cup is different and special because it's our chance to open our network up, ask for help for the community in need and then watch people respond. It’s phenomenal,” said Thomas Jarvis, Vice President of Pre Lease Estimating for Willmeng. “The cool part about it is it’s a collective effort for a single focus."
A special thanks also goes to the host course for the event, The Phoenician. The day included breakfast, a round of golf and an awards dinner that included several major raffle prizes, including an 85’ television, Ooni pizza oven and autographed sports memorabilia. There were also prizes for longest drive and a hole-in-one hole, where anyone who hit a hole-in-one would’ve won a new BMW.
